Darkside is our award-winning signature gin and the first in the Tappers range. Darkside acquired the name from the affectionate term given to the Wirral Peninsula by nose baggers (an Edwardian term for day trippers) from Liverpool who venture over to the ‘dark side’ of the River Mersey to visit quaint seaside towns and villages. Darkside reflects local, good-natured, rivalry and doffs a hat to the region’s maritime history.
Darkside has received international acclaim with awards from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC), giving it a seal of approval from the world’s experts.
Darkside is independently produced in small batches entirely by hand from start to finish in the seaside town of West Kirby, Wirral. The resulting tipple – like all compounded gin – has a natural amber-hue from the infused juniper berries. It took a year to finalise the recipe and each 50cl bottle is individually filled, labelled and wax sealed by hand.
A delightfully pleasing mix of seaside botanicals, including red clover flowers and leaves, chickweed, and freshly foraged sea beet, is infused with five other valuable ingredients for an authentic taste of coastal Britain. Darkside has warming, herbal notes and is smooth and dry to finish.
Signature serve: Neat or on the rocks.
Darkside G&T perfect serve: Fever-Tree Mediterranean Tonic with a sprig of thyme and wedge of orange to garnish.
There are eight botanicals in Darkside Gin including a unique range of coastal ingredients such as red clover (adding a honey-like sweetness), chickweed (for herbal undertones) and freshly foraged sea beet. We also use peppery and spicy black cardamom seeds, rather than the usual green cardamom, to add a little kick up front on the mouth! These unusual botanicals create a distinctive herbal gin which reflects our coastal heritage.
